Winter Sun Farms: Regional - Fair - Sustainable
Enjoying healthy, locally grown food is possible even in the wintertime with Winter Sun Farms, a community supported agriculture program of Blue Ridge Food Ventures.
Winter Sun Farms is a unique CSA that provides shares of locally grown produce that is prepared and frozen at the peak of freshness.
The program helps provide an additional source of income for area farms while providing delicious, sustainably grown fruits and vegetables during the off-season to CSA members.
From their Farms, to our Freezer, to your Table
Here's how it works: During the growing season, Blue Ridge Food Ventures purchases produce from area farms. We then do all the hard work of washing, slicing, dicing, chopping, pureeing, roasting – in other words, getting the produce recipe ready! Then, we flash-freeze it and store it in our commercial freezers, ready to distribute and use in the winter months.
Each month, December through March, subscribers get a bag containing eight or nine packages of these frozen fruit and vegetables grown at local farms. And we provide recipes, too!
