Grant Recipient "Moon Europa" Selected for the 2007 Independent Film Labs at IFP

Date Posted: 6/4/2007

Moon Europa, a sci-fi feature film being produced in Asheville, has been selected for the 2007 Independent Film Labs at IFP (Independent Feature Project) in New York City. The film was one of 10 narrative rough-cut projects chosen by IFP for artistic and independent vision, technical achievement and market potential. In 2006, the project received a $3,000 grant from the Daniel DeLaVerge Media Arts Advantage Fund, sponsored by the Media Arts Project and AdvantageWest Economic Development Group, that assists western North Carolina media artists.

The IFP Narrative Rough Cut Lab, which takes place at SOHO House in New York City each year, provides emerging filmmakers with four days of mentorship, support and one-to-one advice from top technical, creative and industry experts in the areas of editing, sound, marketing and publicity, distribution and sales.

The 2007 Lab fellows represent a diverse sampling of American independent filmmakers (four from New York, one from Los Angeles, one from Oklahoma, onie from North Carolina, one from Minneapolis, one from Pennsylvania and one from Chicago.

IFP is a 28-year-old, not-for-profit membership and advocacy organization that supports and serves the independent film community by connecting creative talent and the film industry. The goal of IFP's programs is to provide a national and international platform that facilitates a nexus between the creative and the business of filmmaking. As a not-for-profit organization, its mission is to foster a more sustainable infrastructure that supports independent filmmaking and ensures that the public has the opportunity to see films that more accurately reflect the full diversity of the American culture.

As part of the IFP Rough Cut Film Lab Fellowship, “Moon Europa” will return to New York in September for the IFP Film Market, a week-long showcase for new features, works-in-progress, shorts, and scripts. “Moon Europa” will be represented by the producers of the film, Chris Bower and G. Craig Hobbs, who will meet with festival programmers from around the world in one-on-one meetings to present the completed film for festival release.

Additionally, a three-minute excerpt from “Moon Europa” will be projected on a rooftop in Manhattan, along with the nine other film lab projects.
