Date Posted: 9/12/2007

AdvantageWest Economic Development Group announced that NC Treasurer Richard Moore and Guy Kawasaki will be the keynote speakers for the 5th Annual Carolina Connect conference on October 11, 2007 at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa.

“We are delighted to have two such dynamic speakers at this powerful event fostering business growth in Western North Carolina,” said Dale Carroll, AdvantageWest CEO. “Mr. Kawasaki’s vision and passion for innovation and growth is a great fit with the energy and enthusiasm of our business climate in Western North Carolina, and North Carolina Treasurer Richard Moore provides great insight into capital markets, the economy and the financial foundation for business in our state. We are truly excited about what this conference brings to the business community in Western North Carolina.

Guy Kawasaki is a managing director of Garage Technology Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm, and is a columnist for Entrepreneur Magazine. He is also ranked as one of the top 100 bloggers in the world. Previously, he was an Apple Fellow at Apple Computer, Inc. where he was one of the individuals responsible for the success of the Macintosh computer. Mr. Kawasaki is the author of eight books including The Art of the Start, Rules for Revolutionaries, How to drive your Competition Crazy and The Macintosh Way.

Treasurer Moore is the sole fiduciary for more than $80 billion in public monies and state investments, oversees the pension funds for more than 780,000 public sector employees, and manages the debt of state and local governments. The Wall Street Journal and credit-rating agency Standard & Poor’s recently named North Carolina as having the second-best funded public pension system in the United States for the second year in a row, a testament to Moore’s responsible management.
