WNC as a haven for creative commerce promoted at SXSW
As one of the country’s biggest events showcasing the art and business of music, independent filmmaking and new technology, South By South West (“SXSW”) is a hotspot for creative entrepreneurs – making it an ideal location to share the advantages of doing business in Western North Carolina.
Attendees at the March 13-21 event, held in Austin Texas, had plenty of opportunities to learn about WNC from AdvantageWest Board Member Sam Neill and Sr. VP Betty Huskins, representing the Creative Commerce Commission (includes WNC Film Commission), and Sr. Director Pam Lewis, representing the Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council (BREC).
In addition to the AdvantageWest team, BREC member DigitalChalk exhibited in the SXSW Interactive Trade Show, which is billed as an incubator of new, cutting-edge technology and “ground zero” for the world's most creative web developers, designers, bloggers, wireless innovators and new media entrepreneurs.
The AdvantageWest Creative Commerce Commission (includes WNC Film Commission) was a title sponsor of the annual SXSW Film Awards Reception & Ceremony. Shown is AdvantageWest Board Member Sam Neill speaking at the awards show.

In an effort to respond to the diverse economic development needs of North Carolina, then State Representative Martin Nesbitt introduced legislation creating the regional economic development partnerships. It was this extraordinary insight that allowed AdvantageWest to become one of the most innovative and nimble economic development programs in the state.
