RIVER TEXTILE SERVICES TO BRING 55 JOBS TO RUTHERFORD COUNTY WHILE HELPING HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY BETTER MANAGE COSTS

FOREST CITY, NC, DECEMBER 21, 2009: River Textile Services (RTS) announced today before the Rutherford County Commission that it has chosen Forest City, NC, as the location for its new 62,500 sq. ft. healthcare laundry facility. RTS will employ 55 local residents, and add approximately $5 million to the county and city’s tax base.

“Rutherford County is very encouraged that River Textile Services has chosen to locate in the Forest City Industrial Park and will be spending more than $1 million to up-fit an existing warehouse building and will be adding up to 55 jobs for the local residents,” said County Commission Chairman Brent Washburn.

RTS is a specialized textile service company that focuses solely on helping healthcare organizations strengthen linen cost control measures, enhance infection control efforts and improve patient care and comfort. “RTS is committed to being a partner with hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory centers, and all medical facilities in Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. Our success will be determined by meeting a high standard of customer service and our ability to help the local healthcare industry manage costs,” RTS Chairman and President George Ferencz said.

“With all healthcare organizations struggling today to balance budgets to preserve jobs and meet the community’s healthcare needs, RTS provides solutions to address one of their major and essential expenditures: linen service,” adds Ferencz.

Ferencz shared with the commission his and RTS’ appreciation for the efforts of the county, in particular Economic Development Director Tom Johnson, during the site selection process. “From the first meeting with Tom at the economic development office until today, everyone in the county has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of our efforts.”

Johnson also expressed his appreciation to George Ferencz and RTS for locating here and bringing job opportunities to Rutherford County. He added that Rutherford County submitted an application to the North Carolina Rural Center to assist with some of the costs required to up-fit the building.

With the opening of the facility next summer, RTS will immediately hire 40 employees and expand to 55 employees in its first year of operation. RTS will provide competitive pay and benefits, including medical, dental and 401(k) plans. RTS will hire for a range of positions, including: production line workers, production supervisors, route representatives, sales representatives, maintenance engineers, and clerical and office staff. The Employment Security Commission (ESC) of Rutherford County will be accepting applications on behalf of RTS and will post job requirements and descriptions. No applications will be accepted other than through ESC. Applications will be accepted according to the following schedule:

• January 15: Applications accepted for mechanical and clerical positions
• April 1: Applications accepted for all other positions
• April 15: Hiring phase for mechanical and clerical positions
• June 1: Hiring phase for all other positions

RTS is bringing to the county healthcare textile service experts from across the country to design and manage what will be one of the nation’s most efficient and productive healthcare laundries. RTS will be outfitted with modern, energy efficient equipment and systems that reclaim heat and energy and are capable of annually processing 30 million pounds of textiles on less than one gallon of water per pound.

Ferencz adds that the healthcare textile services industry is growing and is here to stay. “Healthcare laundry work has been the most outsourced service by hospitals nationwide for the past three years, according to Modern Healthcare magazine. We are an industry committed to local communities. Textile laundry processing cannot be shipped overseas or moved outside the area,” Ferencz says. “We look forward to being a partner with the local healthcare industry and the community for many years.”
