7th Annual Carolina Connect Conference Coming May 13

Date Posted: 5/7/2010

The 7th Annual Carolina Connect conference, one of AdvantageWest’s most highly anticipated events for entrepreneurs and investors, takes place May 13, offering a full day of networking, professional development and idea-sharing – plus awards recognizing innovation and achievement in entrepreneurship across the region.

The event takes place at the Renaissance in downtown Asheville from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a pre-conference networking breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and a post-conference reception, 5 until 6:30 p.m.

Started by Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council (BREC) in 2003 as the first-ever venture capital conference in Western North Carolina and one of the largest in the state, Carolina Connect attracts several hundred businesspeople each year from across the Southeast.

Previous keynote speakers at the conference have included Guy Kawasaki (author of The Art of the Start and Rules for Revolutionaries), Dan Heath (co-author of Made to Stick), and Ryan Allis (the 20-something multimillionaire founder of iContact).

The day kicks off with a pre-conference networking breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., followed at 9 by “A Conversation with the CEOs,” an up-close-and-personal panel of high-profile entrepreneurs from across the state, sharing their secrets of success.

Other conference features include:

Breakout educational sessions organized within four concurrent tracks that cover high-growth entrepreneurism, intrapreneurship and innovation, green business, and funding/access to capital.

The Critical Conversations Networking Café, introduced at last year’s conference and hailed as a crowd favorite, offering a dynamic series of PowerPoint-free environments designed to be conversational and informal led by industry professionals with expertise in topics such as mobile devices, investment deal structures, media relations and website optimization.

The Lone Eagle Award, now in its fifth year, recognizing an outstanding entrepreneur in Western North Carolina. (See nomination information here.)

The Innovation Advantage Award, a new award presented to an existing industry in the AdvantageWest region that has demonstrated a culture of innovation within their corporate infrastructure. (See nomination information here.)

A post-conference networking reception, providing yet another opportunity for attendees to connect.

More information on Carolina Connect, including information on how to register, will be announced soon – stay tuned!
