Local Filmmaker Brings the Days of Early Stock Car Racing To Life with Feature Film “Red Dirt Rising”

Brevard, NC (January 27, 2011) - The Feature Film “Red Dirt Rising,” produced by Brevard, NC resident, James Suttles, is being released nationally throughout the next few weeks at venues such as Blockbuster, Netflix, Redbox, Walmart and online at reddirtrising.com, Amazon.com and many other retailers.

The film held a world premier on May 29, 2010 with over 4,000 attendees at the North Wilkesboro Speedway event and has an active Facebook fan page with close to 10,000 followers, "Red Dirt Rising" is sure to make an impact. The film was completed in late 2009 on a budget of $600,000 using the Red Camera, in Ultra-High Definition, which did a splendid job of capturing the details of High Point North Carolinas’ autumn where most of the film was shot and the true stories of "Red Dirt Rising" were based.

"Red Dirt Rising" is a feature film staffed by a number of Western North Carolina crew, about a North Carolina teen who quickly becomes a man as he maneuvers through love, moonshine running, stock car racing, providing for his young family, and mortality during the Fightin’ Forties. The film is being distributed nationally by Native Intelligence and Otter Creek Motion Pictures.

The Producer, Co-Director, Director of Photography and Editor, James Suttles, is a Brevard, NC native and owner of Suttlefilm and Media (suttlefilm.com) with over twelve years of experience in filmmaking. “This film is a true independent attempt at capturing the rich history of North Carolina, and for those of us from this region these stories are wonderful to re-create,” says Suttles.

He just recently wrapped production as Director of Photography on the feature films "Alone Yet Not Alone," which shot in four states (including Western North Carolina) over a nine-week period; "For the Glory," that lensed in Washington, DC; and the film "Hero" that is set in the world of baseball.

Some of his other recent projects and clients have included Harley Davidson, Simon and Schuster, Readers Digest, Time, Inc. and various music videos. Currently he is in development on the feature film "Seven Days in Nashville" that follows the story of a struggling single father musician as he makes his last attempt at fulfilling his destiny.

Gary Lewallen, the Executive Producer and a native of High Point NC, whose father is the basis for the main character (Jimmy Lewallen played by NC actor Brad Yoder), wanted to tell his father's and father's friends' (Bill Blair played by NC actor Burgess Jenkins and Fred Harb played by NC actor Quentin Kerr) true life stories of moonshining and stock car racing in hopes to raise awareness for the Racing Legends Medical Find, a non-profit that assists old time drivers with medical and living needs. A portion of the profit from Red Dirt Rising goes directly to the Medical Fund.
