AdvantageWest's collaboration with WNC creative firms and individuals on annual report and website is recognized for excellence
With the help of regional design firms, writers, photographers, programmers, printers and other entrepreneurs in the creative industry, AdvantageWest has won two communication awards from the Southern Economic Development Council, the oldest and largest regional economic development association in North America with members in 16 states and the District of Columbia. In both cases, AdvantageWest represented the only organization in North Carolina to have placed in the competition, winning Superior awards in its class under the categories of Annual Reports and Websites.
Marketing and design firm Twang provided creative direction, design and writing for the award-winning 2010 AdvantageWest annual report, with photography by Warner Photography and printing by Daniels Graphics. The annual report can be viewed here.
The website for AdvantageWest’s Certified Entrepreneurial Community® program, www.awcec.com, was developed, designed and programmed by Scullytown, with copywriting by Melissa Stanz, video services by Steve White Productions, and photography by The Frontier Group and by Troy Tolle of DigitalChalk. Additional assistance was provided by KP Communications.
“These awards represent months of hard work and collaboration among many individuals and entrepreneurial businesses here in the region, in addition to members of our staff,” said Scott T. Hamilton, AdvantageWest president and CEO. “I’m proud of the collective talent in the AdvantageWest region that resulted in these awards.”
“On behalf of the AdvantageWest board of directors, I’m delighted that the organization has been recognized once again for excellence in its communication efforts,” said Chairman Tom Alexander. “The success of these projects demonstrates once again that the creative class is alive and well in Western North Carolina.”
Judges for the Communication Awards competition were economic development consultants, practitioners and design professionals from across the southern U.S. that work with clients in developing strategies for growth in their communities.

In an effort to respond to the diverse economic development needs of North Carolina, then State Representative Martin Nesbitt introduced legislation creating the regional economic development partnerships. It was this extraordinary insight that allowed AdvantageWest to become one of the most innovative and nimble economic development programs in the state.
